A Short ‘Doctor Sleep’ Marketing Campaign, The great majority of marketing for “Doctor Sleep” came in the two months prior to its release.

Narciso Ibáñez Serrador's "Who Can Kill a Child?" (1976) did the same basic idea so many years earlier, and so much better, that Kiersch's film seems especially disappointing.

It's an effective media satire and a ripping sci-fi thriller.

David Cronenberg's adaptation of Stephen King's psychic drama stars Christopher Walken as a teacher who falls into a coma and wakes up years later, having lost the love of his life but gaining the power to see the future.

He has tried to put his past behind him, especially his gift of ESP and the paranormal activities he experienced at the Overlook. It's undeniably scary, and Renfro and McKellen give great performances, but almost every scene in this film seems reminiscent of the accusations against Singer accusations, so it's still incredibly hard to get through.

Tobe Hooper's adaptation of King's short story about a haunted laundry machine is insane in all the wrong ways. MakeMKV failed to open the disc. by timwakefield » Fri Feb 07, 2020 2:56 pm, Post Kimberly Peirce's remake of "Carrie" updates King's first novel to the present day, and adds a (perhaps ill-advised) plot point involving social media, but it's still fundamentally the story of an abusive relationship between a mentally ill mother and her repressed and psychically powerful daughter, played respectively by Julianne Moore and Chloë Grace Moretz.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali, who previously made a simple geometric shape seem terrifying in "Cube," this adaptation of a novella by King and his son, Joe Hill, excels at transforming everyday vegetation into the stuff of nightmares. Fortunately, the slime monster short "The Raft" makes up for it, and road-trip ghost story "The Hitch-Hiker" concludes "Creepshow 2" on an amusingly grim note.

Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer's adaptation amplifies the shocks and makes the atmosphere even creepier than ever, but which version is actually "better" is probably just a matter of taste. There's no entry in the keys_hashed file that I can see.

"Dolores Claiborne" is a gripping and overwhelming melodrama, dipped in New England macabre, and it warrants another look from audiences who seem largely to have forgotten it.

“It: Chapter Two,” which skewed older than Blumhouse films, had an audience that was 67% over 25 and 53% male. Some argue that the ending goes on too long, but without the extended denouement, our hero's journey would mean so much less.

We’ve got some fantastic Oscar nominees and other strong movies from every genre coming to the Box and On Demand! But at feature length, this material feels pretty skimpy. Some of the highlights include Knives Out, Frozen II, Ford v Ferrari, Doctor Sleep, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood and many more. "The Running Man" may not be subtle, but its portrayal of TV gone sadistic and amok feels prescient anyway.

Like Denis Villeneuve, Flanagan is a promising new talent (and he’ll be fine in the long run) who got sucked into the allure of big-budget IP continuation and suffered his first high-profile flop as a result.

Sold and sold. For younger audiences, they either haven’t seen the films at all or haven’t seen them in such a long time that they think they won’t get the nods to the original film.”. The remake of "Pet Sematary" is just about on par with the original, with a few notable changes that keep the story feeling relatively timeless but not entirely familiar. John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson are two of the only people in the world who weren't talking on their cell phone when a weird psychic zombie virus was unleashed through all the earpieces.

Directed by Vincenzo Natali, who previously made a simple geometric shape seem terrifying in "Cube," this adaptation of a novella by King and his son, Joe Hill, excels at transforming everyday vegetation into the stuff of nightmares. Kubrick's camera glides down hallways, not so much filming as spying, and captures unthinkable moments that stick in your throat.

When your IP earns less than your somewhat similar outright originals, that’s a sign the project was doomed from inception. Johnny Depp stars as a troubled, struggling, once-popular artist, accused of plagiarism by a mysterious stalker played by Jon Turturro.

The only film that Stephen King directed himself, "Maximum Overdrive" tells the story of a group of strangers who get trapped at a gas station when all the machines on Earth come to life and start killing everybody. The sequels to King's work rarely have anything to do with the source material, so they're all disqualified (even though some, like Larry Cohen's prescient anti-fascist monster drama "A Return to Salem's Lot," are genuinely interesting). King himself has never been a huge fan of it. I have extensively written about all.

Just got this from Amazon and can't rip it. “Pet Semetary” also has a straightforward concept: A haunted graveyard brings the dead back to life as malicious revenants. "The Shining" is a masterpiece of horror, a perfect marriage of material and filmmaker, with iconic performances and insidious scares. Probably not, and that hurt “Doctor Sleep.”. They're plotting to suck the life force out of virginal Mädchen Amick, and their one weakness is actual house cats, which leads to one hilarious feline moment after another. With Ewan McGregor, Rebecca Ferguson, Kyliegh Curran, Cliff Curtis. Directed by Mike Flanagan.

But the primary culprit is the very reason it got made: The Shining. Anton Yelchin stars as a young boy who becomes fascinated with his new neighbor, played by Anthony Hopkins, who has strange psychic powers. I got the new Doctor Sleep UHD disc from Redbox.

Another well-constructed film, made increasingly uncomfortable by context. Kubrick's frequent collaborating producer Jan Harlan has called the doc "idiotic" and "dumb," but it's still a wild watch and an interesting addition to the still-growing universe of The Shining. Follow me at @ScottMendelson and "like" The Ticket Booth on Facebook.

He hopes to use the isolation to write his novel, but the Overlook, and the ghosts that reside within, have other plans.

And even then, there are so many King adaptations that it gets tricky. Drew Barrymore plays a young girl with pyrokinetic powers, and Martin Sheen and George C. Scott play the sinister men who want to kidnap her and exploit her abilities. Timothy Hutton plays a novelist almost-but-not-entirely like Stephen King, who wrote under a pseudonym, had that pseudonym exposed, and publicly "killed" his alter ego.

Still irrevocably scarred by the trauma he endured as a child at the Overlook, Dan Torrance has fought to find some semblance of peace. It's not terrible; it's just dull.

by Procat » Fri Feb 07, 2020 10:01 am, Post Stephen King wrote only one installment of this feature film version of the "Tales From the Darkside" TV series, but it's a doozy. It's going okay until Abra shows up. Dolores (Kathy Bates) is accused of a brutal murder, and when her estranged daughter, played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, investigates, she discovers layer after layer of repressed and traumatic memories. But while her husband is off on one of his many business trips, Allen discovers that he's actually a serial killer. Whether you're enough of a fan to dig in further or not, Kubrick's The Shining is a must-watch before Doctor Sleep. Ewan McGregor is a terrific actor and (seemingly) a decent human being, but Ewan McGregor is not a “butts in seats” movie star and never has been.

It's important to remember that some Stephen King stories are completely nuts, and if you need an example, look no further than "Dreamcatcher."

And it's that engrossing journey that makes "Gerald's Game" one of the best King adaptations.
