So this very concept isn’t all that unique, especially when its intent seems more about how cool it would be to watch Superman powers being used in an R-rated horror environment. While watching it I had to check to see how much of the film was left because I had no idea where it had left to go, and it doesn’t go anywhere; the whole film is him killing people with no repercussions. The idea of an evil Superman playing out as a horror film is a decent one, and a nice twist on the current glut of superhero movies. So much vital stuff that would've given the film a beating heart is discarded. It’s like they’ve been put in a box and shook up. We are introduced to two people who are having trouble conceiving. But this leads me to the overriding feeling I had while watching this – the film is an absolute mess. No scene has any impact on the next. For what could’ve been a unique perspective on superhero movies that could use a good deconstruction, Brightburn burns out any of that appeal rather quick. With 'Brightburn', the visionary filmmaker of 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'Slither' presents a startling, subversive take on a radical new genre: superhero horror. Maybe the film didn’t desire such goals and just wanted to pose scenes of Superman using his heat vision to kill.
